Kidderminster made it back-to-back wins under new boss Phil Brown to move off the foot of the Vanarama National League with a 1-0 victory at Hartlepool.

Pools, who had their new manager Kevin Phillips watching from the stand again as he completes a touchline ban, had the best chances of the first half.

Anthony Mancini fired the ball narrowly wide before the French midfielder was denied by goalkeeper Christian Dibble as he tried to turn in the rebound from Tom Crawford’s parried shot.

Jack Lambert’s long-range strike was comfortably gathered by Hartlepool goalkeeper Joel Dixon early in the second half, but Kidderminster did snatch a winner after 67 minutes when Ashley Hemmings’ cross was glanced in by the head of substitute Amari Morgan-Smith.

Charlie Carter’s first goal for Dorking clinched his side their first home win of the year – a 1-0 victory over 10-man Gateshead.

Carter, signed from Eastleigh for an undisclosed fee in October, struck the game’s only goal inside the near post shortly before half-time.

Gateshead midfielder Regan Booty was shown a straight red card in the 25th minute for his reckless challenge on Dorking striker Jason Prior.

Dorking dominated possession up until the break but failed to test the visitors’ on-loan Chelsea goalkeeper Chris Beach until Carter fired home from the edge of the penalty area after being teed up by Josh Taylor in the 43rd minute

Gateshead improved after the break and after Connor McBride’s shot from the edge of the box hit a post and Luke Hannant was denied by Dorking goalkeeper Harrison Male.

Kevin Phillips watched on as Anthony Mancini’s stunning strike earned Hartlepool a 1-0 win at Ebbsfleet.

The former Sunderland and West Brom striker was confirmed as Pools’ new manager shortly before kick-off and will have been delighted to see his side secure a first away victory since November.

The visitors enjoyed the better of the opening exchanges, with Joe Grey bringing a save from Mark Cousins in the 27th minute, but Ebbsfleet’s Darren McQueen was denied twice in quick succession by goalkeeper Joel Dixon just before the break.

Hartlepool took the lead in the 59th minute when David Ferguson fed Mancini, he turned his man and let fly with a dipping 25-yard shot which went in off the crossbar.

Kieran Wallace sent a header over the crossbar for Pools, while Fleet’s Omari Sterling-James saw a free-kick blocked by the head of defender Emmanuel Onariase at the death.

Phil Brown enjoyed a remarkable first game as Kidderminster boss after seeing his side mount a spirited comeback to beat National League rivals Aldershot 4-2.

Bottom-of-the-table Harriers trailed 2-0 after just 24 minutes at Aggborough, but Ashley Hemmings’ double and further goals from Amari Morgan-Smith and substitute Gold Omotayo turned what had looked like being another dark day on its head.

Brown’s afternoon got off to a bad start when Josh Stokes fired the visitors into a fifth-minute lead from Lorent Tolaj’s cut-back, and it took a further turn for the worse with 24 minutes gone when Cian Harries sent keeper Christian Dibble the wrong way from the penalty spot after a foul on Tolaj.

However, things picked up markedly for the home side on the half-hour when, after Morgan-Smith had been fouled, Hemmings converted the resulting spot-kick, and he repeated the dose seven minutes before the break when he span on Caleb Richards’ cross to fire home an equaliser.

Morgan-Smith completed a remarkable fightback three minutes after the restart when he headed the home side in front for the first time from Alex Penny’s cross, and there was more to come 12 minutes from time as substitute Omatayo followed up to score after Hemmings’ initial effort had been saved.

Kwesi Appiah struck his first goal since August to snatch Boreham Wood a point in a 2-2 draw at high-flying Bromley.

Former AFC Wimbledon and Crawley striker Appiah, recently back from a long-term injury, stepped off the bench to head home an 89th-minute equaliser.

The visitors had hit the crossbar through Tyrone Marsh before Billy Sass-Davies headed them into a 27th-minute lead.

Bromley responded immediately through Corey Whitely’s brilliant equaliser from outside the penalty area and they took the lead in the 59th minute when Callum Reynolds slammed home from close range.

But Appiah’s towering late header clinched Boreham Wood a point as Bromley extended their unbeaten league run to eight matches.

Chesterfield stretched their lead at the top of the National League to 12 points after substitute James Berry’s late goal saw them to a 2-1 win at home to Altrincham.

Berry came off the bench to score with a fantastic solo effort, running through the heart of the visitors’ defence and curling expertly beyond goalkeeper Matthew Gould from the edge of the box.

Earlier, Chris Conn-Clarke had equalised for Altrincham, who failed to consolidate their place amongst the division’s play-off hopefuls.

Midfielder Oliver Banks put the league leaders in front midway through the first half as they maintained their record of having dropped only two points at home this season.

Jack Bridge fired Southend to a 1-0 victory over Eastleigh with a second-half penalty at Silverlake Stadium.

The encounter got off to a slow start but picked up as the halfway point in the first period approached when Eastleigh goalkeeper Joe McDonnell made a pair of saves in quick succession.

There were numerous chances for both sides to net an opener before the break, but it was not until Henry Sandat was pulled down and Bridge coolly converted that the deadlock was finally broken after 53 minutes.

Southend nearly had another when Ollie Kensdale’s header hit the crossbar, but the spot-kick was ultimately all it took for the Shrimpers to secure all three points.

Will Grigg netted a hat-trick as Chesterfield extended their lead at the top of the National League to nine points with a 5-0 victory over Gateshead.

The Spireites opened the scoring in the 12th minute when Grigg stabbed home from close range and doubled their lead just after the half-hour mark when Tom Naylor found the net via the post.

Chesterfield scored two goals within a minute at the end of the half, firstly through Grigg before Michael Jacobs slotted home to put them 4-0 up.

Grigg was given the opportunity to secure the match ball when Chesterfield were awarded a penalty in the 54th minute and the striker made no mistake in dispatching the spot-kick for his first treble for the club.

Nicke Kabamba registered his 18th Vanarama National League goal of the season as promotion-chasing Barnet came from behind to beat Dagenham 2-1.

The third-placed Bees, who lost 3-2 at Altrincham on Saturday, fell behind in the 27th minute when Josh Rees turned home Harry Phipps’ flick-on from a corner.

Daggers goal scorer Rees was denied a second by the crossbar before striker Kabamba brought the hosts level in first-half added time with a close-range finish.

Dagenham again hit the crossbar through Frank Vincent’s deflected effort but were left empty handed after Zak Brunt fired home Barnet’s winner with half-an-hour remaining.

Fylde stepped up their fight against relegation from the National League by beating Hartlepool 2-1 to claim their second-straight win.

Having moved off the foot of the table with Saturday’s victory over Rochdale, Nick Haughton’s early opener maintained the Coasters’ recent momentum.

An own goal from Emmanuel Onariase – three minutes later – doubled Fylde’s lead before home goalkeeper Theo Richardson denied Callum Cooke at full stretch.

The visitors, who also ended a long losing run on Saturday, hit back through Jake Hastie after 74 minutes and missed a golden chance to level two minutes later when Cooke’s free-kick crashed back off the crossbar.

Adam Crookes grabbed an injury-time equaliser for National League draw specialists York, levelling after a long-range strike from Boreham Wood’s Chris Bush.

Bush let fly from distance in the 83rd minute, summoning enough power to beat the best efforts of Minstermen goalkeeper George Sykes-Kenworthy for his first of the season.

That looked to be enough to seal back-to-back victories for Luke Garrard’s men, who had withstood good chances from Billy Chadwick and Will Davies, but they could not hang on.

York did not relent and grabbed a point for the fourth time in five games, and the 12th time this season, when Crookes nodded home via a deflection off Wood’s Matt Robinson following a goalmouth scramble.

Hartlepool ended a run of six Vanarama National League games without a win as they beat fellow strugglers Oxford City 2-1 at the Suit Direct Stadium.

The hosts, who appointed Lennie Lawrence as caretaker manager on Wednesday following the sacking of John Askey last month, held the upper hand for most of the match.

Joe Grey cracked an early effort against the bar and Anthony Mancini brought a good save out of Jack Bycroft.

Tom Crawford lashed Hartlepool in front on 56 minutes when he fired home on the rebound, and Grey’s effort from close range doubled their lead five minutes later.

City, who went into the game with just one league win in their last seven, reduced the deficit when Seydil Toure scored in the 77th minute.

Ebbsfleet boosted their National League survival hopes with a valuable 2-0 win over Wealdstone.

Ousseynou Cisse broke the deadlock in the 34th minute when he got on the end of a curling free-kick from Toby Edser to head home.

And Dominic Poleon added a decisive second from the penalty spot in the 65th minute after Dominic Samuel was fouled in the box.

The win brings Ebbsfleet level on points with 20th-placed Woking, who have a game in hand, and one point behind Dorking after their defeat at home to Oldham.

Altrincham held off a late Barnet fightback to end a three-game winless run with a 3-2 victory over their fellow promotion hopefuls.

Alex Newby picked his spot to put Altrincham in front in only the second minute before there was a lengthy hold up due to an injury to referee James Durkin.

The hosts doubled their lead in the sixth of 10 minutes added on at the end of the first half, when Lewis Baines turned the ball home from a corner, and they were cruising when Chris Conn-Clarke’s shot deflected off Jerome Okimo to make it 3-0 early in the second half.

But Barnet pulled a goal back through Harry Pritchard with 16 minutes left before Idris Kanu put a fright into the home fans with a goal in the first minute of stoppage time.

Bromley missed their chance to put pressure on National League leaders Chesterfield as they were held to a goalless draw at mid-table Maidenhead.

Despite heading into the game on the back of six wins from their last seven games, the visitors struggled to find a way through and were forced to settle for a point in a goalless draw.

Kevin Lokko had an 11th-minute effort disallowed for the hosts and both Shawn McCoulsky and Ashley Nathaniel-George missed fine chances to give the home side the lead.

But Bromley missed a great opportunity to win it in the 85th minute when Ryan Jones’ corner caused chaos in the Maidenhead box and Josh Passley’s header was blocked on the line.
