Scorpions secure 40-run win over Academy early on day four at Coolidge

The Jamaica Scorpions completed a 40-run win over the West indies Academy early on day five of their fifth-round West Indies Championship clash at Coolidge on Saturday.

The Academy entered the day needing a further 100 runs for victory while the Scorpions needed five wickets.

Overnight batsmen Carlon Bowen-Tuckett and Joshua Bishop added a further 40 runs early on Saturday to their overnight 256 before Bishop’s wicket for 49 in 69th over signaled the beginning of the end.

Just a few overs later, Bowen-Tuckett fell for a well-played 70 off 95 balls to leave the Academy 309-7 needing a further 47 for victory.

The subsequent wickets of Johann Layne (0) and Jediah Blades (1) secured Jamaica’s second win of the season and first since round one.

Marquino Mindley finished with 3-46 from 13 overs while Ojay Shields, Brad Barnes and Jeavor Royal took two wickets, each.
