Academy, Scorpions evenly poised heading into final day at Coolidge

It will still be all to play for on day four of the fifth-round West Indies Championship tussle between the West Indies Academy and Jamaica Scorpions after a spirited effort with both bat and ball from the Academy on Friday.

The Scorpions, after entering day two 110-2 and leading the Academy by 274, were dismissed for just 191 in 53.4 overs leaving the Academy needing 356 for victory.

Brandon King added 19 to his overnight 58* to top score with 77 off 115 balls including 11 fours and two sixes while Javelle Glenn made 39 in support.

Joshua Bishop did the bulk of the damage with the ball for the Academy with 5-35 from his 15 overs while Johann Layne took 4-50 from 16 overs in support.

The Academy then ended the day 256-5 after 59 overs, needing another 100 runs for victory on Saturday, with Carlon Bowen-Tuckett and Joshua Bishop at the crease on 46 and 25, respectively.

After opener Mbeki Joseph fell early for 14, captain Ackeem Auguste and Teddy Bishop put on 124 for the second wicket before Bishop fell for a well-played 57 off 87 balls including eight fours.

Auguste carried on to post a 108-ball 77 including nine fours and a six before he fell off the bowling of Brad Barnes in the 40th over with the score on 173.

Rivaldo Clarke (10), and Jordan Johnson (12) were the other batsmen dismissed before stumps.

Barnes and Ojay Shields have evenly shared four of the five wickets to fall so far.
