Jamaica has named a solid squad for the upcoming World Athletics Indoor Championships, set to take place from March 21-23, 2025, in Nanjing, China. The 23-member team features some of the island’s top indoor performers, including 60m hurdles sensation Ackera Nugent and Olympic long jump silver medalist Wayne Pinnock, both of whom are expected to challenge for podium finishes.

Nugent, who has been one of the fastest women in the world this year, enters the championships in red-hot form, having clocked 7.75 seconds over the 60m hurdles this season. The Olympic 100m finalist will be looking to secure Jamaica’s first women’s 60m hurdles title at the indoor championships. She will be joined by Amoi Brown, who has also shown consistent improvement on the circuit.

In the men’s 60m hurdles, Jerome Campbell and Demario Prince will look to make their mark against a stacked field.

Wayne Pinnock, the reigning Olympic silver medalist, has been steadily preparing for the competition and will be one of Jamaica’s top medal hopes in the long jump. Pinnock, who finished fourth at the 2022 World Indoor Championships, will be hoping to land on the podium this time.

He will be joined by 2019 World Champion Tajay Gayle, who has already soared past the 8m mark this season, signalling his readiness to compete for top honours.

With Olympic silver medalist Kishane Thompson ruled out due to injury, Nishion Ebanks and Rohan Watson will fly the flag for Jamaica in the men’s 60m dash, with Travis Williams listed as a reserve.

On the women’s side, Jodean Williams and veteran Natasha Morrison will aim to make an impact in the short sprint, where Jamaica has produced several finalists in recent editions of the championships.

Rusheen McDonald,  who won bronze at the 2024 edition in Glasgow, will double up in the individual 400m and the 4x400m relay, leading a squad that includes Jasauna Dennis, Demar Francis, Tarees Rhoden, and Kimar Farquharson.

For the women’s 400m, Leah Anderson and Joanne Reid will represent Jamaica, with Janieve Russell named as a reserve.

Jamaica will also have representation in the high jump, with Romaine Beckford and Raymond Richards, while Jordan Scott will contest the triple jump.

In the shot put, Lloydricia Cameron will compete in the women’s event, while Rajindra Campbell, the Olympic bronze medallist, will take on the men’s field, aiming to build on his strong performances from last season.
