Barbados Football Association (BFA) President Randy Harris is embracing the honour of representing the Caribbean region on the prestigious FIFA Council.

The veteran football administrator was elected during the 40th Ordinary Congress of the Confederation of North, Central America, and Caribbean Association Football (Concacaf) in St. Lucia on Saturday, making history as the first Barbadian to hold the esteemed position.

“It is really an honour and a privilege to be elected as a member of the FIFA Council,” Harris said.

“I am looking forward to being able to strengthen the voice of the region at the global table and to continue to support the FIFA president’s vision in the development of football globally," he added.

Harris, whose career spans 48 years, joins re-elected Caribbean representative Sonia Fulford of the Turks and Caicos Islands on the council, while Martinique’s Maurice Victoire was re-elected to the Concacaf Council.

As a result of his new role, Harris announced that he would not seek re-election as Caribbean Football Union (CFU) president, a position he has held since 2018.

The official announcement of his election came before an audience that included FIFA President Gianni Infantino, Concacaf President Victor Montagliani, and delegates from all 41 Concacaf member associations. The Congress, which serves as the region’s annual general meeting, also highlighted ongoing initiatives aimed at developing football across North America, Central America, and the Caribbean.
