Jamaica Volleyball Association (JaVA) President Jacqueline Cowan has been elected to the Mass Participation and Snow Volleyball Commission at the recently concluded FIVB World Congress in Porto, Portugal.

The congress marked a pivotal moment for the global volleyball community, with Fabio Azevedo elected unopposed to replace outgoing FIVB President Ary Graca, who was not eligible for re-election. Alongside the leadership transition, the FIVB approved its 2024-2028 Commissions, setting the agenda for the next Olympic cycle. Cowan’s appointment to the commission reflects both her leadership in volleyball and Jamaica’s increasing influence on the international stage.

The Mass Participation and Snow Volleyball Commission has a critical role in expanding the reach and appeal of volleyball globally. The commission is tasked with developing and organizing Snow Volleyball programs worldwide while also ensuring the preparation and oversight of all world and official competitions in the format. Cowan’s work on the commission will contribute to growing interest and participation in the sport, emphasizing inclusivity and innovation across diverse regions.

Cowan joins a distinguished group of members from countries including Austria, Maldives, India, Cape Verde Islands, England, Angola, Oman, Nepal, Argentina, Tanzania, Turkey, and Switzerland. Her inclusion highlights Jamaica’s growing prominence in sports administration and its commitment to fostering opportunities for development at both regional and global levels.
