A maiden first-class century from Matthew Forde and a five-wicket haul from Ramon Simmonds led a spirited fightback from the Barbados Pride on day three of their final round West Indies Championship fixture against the Leeward Islands Hurricanes at Warner Park in St. Kitts on Friday.

The Pride after starting the day 153-5 in 37 overs, were bowled out for 315 in 73.2 overs.

Forde, who began the day 21*, continued to prove his skills as a genuine all-rounder with a top score of 120 off 146 balls including four fours and nine sixes.

Kevin Wickham added 19 to his overnight 55 before falling in the 51st over.

Justin Greaves finished with 3-36 from 15 overs while Rakheem Cornwall and Oshane Thomas took two wickets, each.

At stumps, Barbados’ bowlers produced a spirited effort to keep hopes of an improbable win alive, leaving the Hurricanes reeling at 76-8 in 37 overs, leading by 205 runs.

Only Keacy Carty (37) and Jahmar Hamilton, who retired hurt on 12, got to double figures as Ramon Simmonds and Shaquille Cumberbatch have, so far, combined for all eight wickets.

Simmonds has taken 5-21 from 12 overs while Cumberbatch has picked up 3-17 from eight overs.
