Jamaican volleyball star Aiko Jones is returning to familiar territory—but this time, she'll be courtside in a different role. The former University of Louisville standout and current outside hitter for the Atlanta Vibe in the Professional Volleyball Federation has been named assistant coach of the Bellarmine University volleyball team.

Head coach Rick Nold announced the hire on Monday, hailing Jones as a valuable addition to the Knights’ program.

"I am extremely excited to welcome Aiko to the Bellarmine Volleyball family," Nold said. "It's been a blast cheering her on as a fan the past few years, and we can't wait to integrate her into our program. Aiko brings with her a wealth of experience as both a student-athlete and professional, and I look forward to our players learning from her."

Jones, who recently signed with the Atlanta Vibe in December 2024 to begin her professional career, said she's thrilled to remain connected to the city she’s called home for the past six years.

"After spending six of the most meaningful years of my life in Louisville, I could not be more excited to join the Bellarmine Volleyball family," Jones said. "I am honoured to be given this opportunity to give back to the city of Louisville and to volleyball, and to do that as a Bellarmine Knight. I'm looking forward to growing with this group as we continue to advance this great program."

While this marks her first formal collegiate coaching role, Jones is no stranger to the sidelines. She began coaching during her time at Louisville, starting with summer volleyball camps and later assisting at high school programs such as North Bullitt and Grandview Heights. She also offers private lessons, developing a strong foundation for the transition into the college coaching ranks.

As a player, Jones left a lasting legacy at the University of Louisville. After redshirting her freshman season in 2018, the opposite hitter quickly rose to prominence, earning a string of accolades including three First Team All-ACC selections, two Second Team All-ACC honours, four AVCA NCAA Tournament All-Region First Team nods, and an AVCA All-American Honourable Mention.

A five-year starter and four-time team captain, Jones ranks among Louisville’s all-time greats. She finished her career with 1,344 kills—10th most in school history and fourth in the rally scoring era. She also tallied 579 digs, 482 blocks (seventh all-time), and 155 aces (second in rally scoring era), while playing 149 career matches, the sixth-most in Louisville history.

Jones joins Bellarmine as the team continues its growth within NCAA Division I competition, and her arrival is expected to bring a boost both on the court and in recruiting, thanks to her professional profile and deep ties to the city.
