Defending champions Kingston Cricket Club and St. Mary CA were among the teams to secure outright wins in last weekend’s second round of the Michael Holding Senior Cup.
Kingston took over top spot in Zone D with a comfortable 10-wicket win over the Jamaica Defense Force at Up Park Camp.
Kingston were bowled out for 295 in 69.4 overs in their first innings after being put in to bat by the soldiers.
Jamaica Scorpions batsman Kirk McKenzie led the way with 66 off 84 balls including five fours and four sixes while Andre Bailey hit a 96-ball 50 including five fours and two sixes in support.
Nicoli McKenzie (39), Derval Green (38) and Mickayle Riley (35*) also made good contributions while Jamaica Scorpions pacer Gordon Bryan led the bowling with 5-45 from 15 overs.
Left-arm spinner Patrick Harty Jr then starred with 7-46 from 14.1 overs to help restrict JDF to 129 all out in 38.1 overs in their first innings.
Tevin Gilzene (34), Sheldon Cottrell (32) and Deethmar Anderson (31) were the main scorers.
Following on, JDF then made 180 all out in 37.3 overs in their second innings.
Jordon Allen led the way with 55 while captain Carl Reid and Gordon Bryan made 30, each.
Harty followed up his first innings heroics with 6-54 off 15.3 overs in the second innings and was well supported by off-spinners Brad Barnes and Akim Fraser who evenly split the other four wickets.
Kingston then reached their target of 15 without the loss of a wicket.
At Lynch Park, St. Mary CA secured an innings and 43-run win over Portland CA in Zone C.
Portland were dismissed for 143 in 29.5 overs in their first innings after being put in to bat.
Herman Henry was the main scorer with 57 off 75 balls as off-spinner Marlon Byfield took 4-32 from 5.5 overs to lead the bowling effort. Left-arm pacer Jevaughn Hinds provided good support with 3-27 from his five overs.
St. Mary then replied with a massive 374-5 in 68.2 overs before declaring. Alwyn Williams starred with a brilliant 244 off 212 balls, his second double-hundred already this season.
He hit 24 fours and 12 sixes and was supported well by Aan Ennis who made 68 off 120 balls. Medium pacers Herman Henry and Atoy Newell took two wickets apiece.
Portland, batting one short in their second innings, were then restricted to 188-9 in 47.1 overs. Captain Robert Weir made 63 while Newell hit 44 against 4-32 off 10.1 overs of left-arm spin from captain Tyrone Daley.
