Mount Pleasant, Montego Bay United secure playoff spots as five out of top six secure three points in Wray & Nephew Premier League

Mount Pleasant FA and Montego Bay United are playoff-bound as five of the top six teams in the standings secured win in Saturday’s round of matches in the Wray & Nephew Jamaica Premier League.

Leaders Mount Pleasant Academy maintained their six-point lead atop the table and qualified for the playoffs with a comfortable 3-0 win over Harbour View at Drax Hall.

Gadail Irving opened the scoring in the 34th minute before Nicholas Nelson scored in the 60th and 62nd minutes to secure the victory.

Mount Pleasant now have 75 points from 32 matches played, three matches less than Montego Bay United who returned to second place on 69 points thanks to a 4-0 win over Dunbeholden at the Montego Bay Sports Complex.

Montego Bay United, who will also be in the postseason, went into the halftime interval with a 3-0 advantage thanks to a double from Jourdaine Fletcher, with his goals coming in the 29th and 42nd minutes, as well as a strike from Che Benny in first half stoppage time.

Nazime Grant completed the scoring in the 89th minute.

A first half stoppage time strike from Ronaldo Robinson gave fourth-placed Portmore United a 1-0 win over Humble Lion at Effortville Community Centre.

Portmore are now within six points of Arnett Gardens in third with their 60 points from 34 games.

Defending champions Cavalier are seven points behind Portmore in fifth after a 3-1 win over Vere United at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex.

Shaquille Stein gave Cavalier the lead two minutes before halftime before Jalmaro Calvin doubled it on the stroke of the break.

Robino Gordon made things interesting when he pulled one back for Vere in the 66th minute before Dwayne Atkinson secured the points for Cavalier two minutes later.

The second game at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex saw an Andre Fletcher goal in the 63rd minute give Waterhouse a 1-0 win over Molynes United.

Waterhouse now have 49 points from 35 games in sixth.

Action continues on Monday with another double header at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex.

Eighth-placed Racing United will take on ninth-placed Chapelton Maroons while third-placed Arnett Gardens will take on seventh-placed Tivoli Gardens.
