Portmore United secures Wray & Nephew Premier League playoff berth with 2-1 win over Arnett Gardens

Former champions Portmore United are the fourth team to book their spot in the Jamaica Premier League play-offs after beating Arnett Gardens 2-1 in their third-round game played at Ferdie Neita Park on Sunday.

The win saw Portmore United improve to 63 points and join Mount Pleasant FA (78 points), Montego Bay United (69 points) and Arnett Gardens (67 points) as the teams that have confirmed their places in the top six.

Portmore took the lead 29 minutes into the game through Cardel Benbow before, 16 minutes into the second half, Warner Brown equalized with a penalty for his 21st goal of the season.

Just one minute later, Ronaldo Robinson scored Portmore’s winner.

Elsewhere, a late Jalmaro Calvin double salvaged a point for defending champions Cavalier against Harbour View at the Harbour View Stadium.

The hosts took the leas in the 17th minute through DeJuan Green before going up 2-0 when Andre Fagan scored in first half stoppage time.

Calvin then made it 2-1 with his 17th goal of the season in the 77th minute before adding number 18 in stoppage time to salvage the draw.

Cavalier remain fifth on 57 points from 34 games while Harbour View are 10th on 33 points, just a point outside of the relegation zone.

Waterhouse remain sixth on 52 points thanks to a 1-0 win over Humble Lion after an 80th minute strike from Shamarie Dallas at the Waterhouse Mini Stadium.

One point behind them in seventh are Tivoli Gardens FC after they came from a goal behind to defeat last placed Vere United at the Wembley Centre of Excellence.

Tyreek Magee gave Vere the lead in the eighth minute before Kimarley Smith equalized for Tivoli 17 minutes from halftime.

Barrington Pryce got the winner for Tivoli in the 69th minute.

Molynes United went to Dunbeholden and recorded their first win in eight games with a 2-0 victory thanks to goals from Nickache Murray in the seventh minute and Mickel Graham in second half stoppage time.
