Jamaican international Shania Hayles opened the scoring as Newcastle United Women delivered a commanding 6-0 victory over Blackburn Rovers Women in the FA Women’s Championship at Kingston Park on Sunday.
In front of a crowd of 2,064, Hayles gave Newcastle a dream start in the 10th minute, clinically slotting home a left-footed strike into the bottom right corner after being set up by Emily Murphy. The goal marked Hayles’ latest contribution in a season that has seen her emerge as one of Newcastle's most influential attacking players.
Newcastle’s dominance continued throughout the first half, with Freya Gregory adding a second in the 38th minute before Beth Lumsden made it 3-0 just two minutes later. Murphy, who had already registered an assist, got on the scoresheet herself early in the second half, finishing off a move in the 49th minute to stretch the lead to four.
Substitute Isabella Sibley rounded out the performance with a brace in the final quarter, scoring in the 76th and 90th minutes to complete the rout for Becky Langley’s side.
Hayles, who played 81 minutes before being substituted, was a constant menace down the left and won multiple fouls as she repeatedly troubled Blackburn’s back line.
