Leaders Mount Pleasant start JPL second round with 1-0 win over Portmore United; Arnett Gardens, Cavalier also secure wins

Leaders Mount Pleasant Academy are now winners of five game in a row in the Wray & Nephew Jamaica Premier League after a narrow 1-0 victory over Portmore United on Sunday.

Shaqueil Bradford got the only goal of the game four minutes before halftime at Ferdie Neita Park to help Mount Pleasant kick off the second round with a win and move to 31 points from 14 outings atop the standings.

Arnett Gardens FC are a point behind the leaders after 14 games of their own thanks to a 1-0 road win over Dunbeholden FC.

The five-time JPL champions didn’t have to wait long to find the winning goal as Kimani Arbouine scored just 15 minutes into proceedings.

Defending champions Cavalier SC rebounded from a loss against Chapelton Maroons and a draw against Montego Bay United in their last two outings with a 3-1 win over Humble Lion at Stadium East to move five points behind the leaders in third.

The reigning champions took the lead 11 minutes before halftime through Shaquille Stein before Jay Jamieson equalized for Humble Lion in the 39th minute.

Trinidadian international Kaile Auvray scored in the 69th minute to restore the Cavalier lead before the points were sealed 11 minute later through Jalmaro Calvin.

Waterhouse FC are fourth on the same number of points as Cavalier after a 1-1 draw with Racing United at Ferdie Neita Park.

Atapharoy Bygrave gave Waterhouse the lead in the 46th minute with his sixth goal of the season but an Andre Campbell goal 13 minutes from full time meant the points were shared.

In the day’s other games, Tivoli Gardens FC defeated Molynes United 2-0 at Stadium East thanks to goals from Barrington Pryce and Horatio Morgan in the 13th and 36th minutes, respectively, while a Javel Ellis 56th minute strike gave Chapelton Maroons a 1-0 win over Harbour View FC at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex.

Match week 14 ends when Montego Bay United host Vere United at the Catherine Hall Sports Complex on Monday.
