Despite winning two gold medals, Danielle Titus of Barbados is lamenting missing out on the Olympic ‘B’ standard while competing at the second UANA Cup held in Lima, Peru on the weekend.

The 17-year-old Barbadian swimming star won the 50-metre backstroke on Sunday in a new championship record of 29.72, breaking the record of 29.73 set by Mexico’s Andrea Sansores in January 2018.

It was also the first time that a Barbadian female was breaking the 30-second barrier for the event.

It was her second gold medal of the meet having won the 100m backstroke on Saturday in a meet record 1:03.93. She was more than a second faster than the previous record of 1:05.10 set by Peru’s Andrea Marcel Hurtado in 2018.

She expressed mixed feelings about the weekend when she spoke with Sportsmax.TV on Sunday.

“Overall, the meet was pretty successful. In the 50 back, I did a best time so I am really happy about that,” she said. “In my 100 back I was disappointed with my time as I wanted to get an Olympic ‘B’ time.

“In general, I had a pretty good meet, I just have a few things to work on for the future.”

Her medals were the only two won by Barbados at the meet.
