Re-elected Bahamas Aquatics Federation president Algernon Cargill has declared that the federation’s top priority is ensuring the Bahamas retains its Carifta Swimming Championships title.
The island nation has won the championship six consecutive times and eight of the last nine years.
“Our first order of business is to defend our Carifta title in Trinidad and Tobago,” Cargill said following his unopposed re-election during the federation’s annual general meeting (AGM) and elections recently.
“We expect a tough competition, but we are excited to compete and defend our title,” he added.
Cargill also highlighted upcoming milestones, including the World Championships in Singapore, where he anticipates Lamar Taylor will lead the delegation. Locally, he said, the federation plans to host regular club meets and strengthen partnerships with programs like "Let’s Swim Bahamas" to promote swimming and water safety across the islands.
The newly elected leadership team comprises seasoned members, including Lynne Fraino as first vice president, Christine Wallace-Whitfield as second vice president, and Gena Culmer-Taylor as third vice president. Other key positions include Georgette Albury as secretary, Andrea Longley as assistant secretary, Erald Thompson as treasurer, and Kendric Albury as assistant treasurer.
Fraino, representing Grand Bahama, emphasized her commitment to athlete support and promoting swimming initiatives, particularly for women and girls.
“I am grateful to be re-elected,” she declared.
“Under President Cargill’s leadership and with a supportive board, Bahamas Aquatics is set for an exciting future. Ensuring every Bahamian student learns to swim remains a priority, as water safety is crucial for our nation,” Fraino stated.
Cargill lauded the federation’s progress over the past four years, citing achievements in sponsorship acquisition, international appointments, event hosting, and athlete success.
He also expressed gratitude to members for their continued trust and highlighted the federation’s dedication to fostering both competitive excellence and broader participation in aquatic sports.
