Matthews, Taylor hit fifties as West Indies Women beat Ireland in ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifying Warm-up game

Fifties from captain Hayley Matthews and the returning Stafanie Taylor propelled the West Indies Women to a five-wicket win over Ireland Women in an ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier Warm-up fixture at the Lahore City Cricket Association Ground in Lahore, Pakistan on Saturday.

Ireland, after winning the toss and selecting to take first strike, posted a respectable 248-8 from their 50 overs in the middle.

Laura Delany led the charge with 67* off 73 balls while Leah Paul and captain Gaby Lewis made 46 off 43 balls and 45 off 47 balls, respectively.

Matthews led the bowling with 3-62 from her 10 overs while Karishma Ramharack and Afy Fletcher took 2-36 from nine overs and 2-41 from 10 overs, respectively, in support.

The West Indians then needed only 41.1 overs to reach 252-5.

Matthews led the way with 55 off 53 balls including eight fours and a six at the top of the order while Taylor contributed 53* off 51 balls including seven fours in her first match for the West Indies Women since last October.

Zaida James, who shared in a 90-run opening stand with Matthews, made a patient 73-ball 47 while Shabika Gajnabi and Chinelle Henry also made solid contributions with 25 off 31 balls and 23 off nine balls, respectively.

Leg-spinner Cara Murray took 3-73 off her nine overs for the Irish.

The West Indies will next take on Pakistan in their final Warm-up fixture on Sunday.
