Mouttet Mile winner Funcaandun was expectedly voted 2024 Horse-of-the-Year, following a dominant campaign that saw him claim some of Jamaica’s most prestigious races.

The decision was made by a 15-member committee, consisting of 10 journalists and five representatives from the promoting company, Supreme Ventures and Entertainment Limited (SVREL).

After the votes were tallied, Carlton Watson’s talented three-year-old bay colt (Klimt–Fiftyshadesoffun) emerged as the clear winner, as he cemented his status as the standout performer of the year.

Trained by Jason DaCosta, Funcaandun, an eight-time winner from 11 starts, amassed $27,878,200 in earnings. He outclassed rivals in the Rimsky Trophy, World Vet Day Trophy, She’s A Maneater Trophy, Distinctly Irish Trophy, Philip Feanny Gold Cup, and the ultra-rich Mouttet Mile

Atomica.

In addition to his Horse-of-the-Year title, Funcaandun was also named Champion Three-Year-Old, Champion Middle Distance Performer, and Champion Foreign Bred. He was bred in the USA by Bill Adair, Phyllis Adair, and Connie Brown and groomed by Terrence Bloomfield.

Gary Subratie’s Jamaica Cup winner Atomica (Nuclear Wayne–Honkeytonkville) was named first runner-up to the Horse-of-the-Year, but the Oakridge Farms-owned charge also copped the Champion Four-Year-Old & Up, Champion Stayer, and Champion Local Bred crowns.

Second runner-up honours went to another Gary Subratie-conditioned charge Desert of Malibu (Malibu Moon–Lady Digger). Owned by Houston Stables, Desert of Malibu registered victories in the Port Royal Sprint, None Such Sprint, and Lady Geeta features, and those performances earned him the title of Champion Sprinter Overall.

Meanwhile, the Colin Elcock-owned American-bred Unspun was named Champion Two-Year-Old. The Spun To Run – U Need A Ride progeny won the Dye Job Sprint, the Mr Sensational, and the Hovercraft trophies.

Donovan Hutchinson took home the Most Improved Trainer award, while champion jockey Raddesh Roman copped the Most Improved Rider honours.

Carlton Watson once again copped the Champion Owner prize, while Jason DaCosta retained his Champion Trainer crown. Shane Richardson was named Champion Apprentice, and Garth Pennant named Champion Groom.

Ham Stables Limitde and Casual Trick were named Champion Breeder and Sire, respectively.
