T&T and Haiti open FIBA 3x3 AmeriCup Qualifiers with wins over St. Kitts & Nevis and Guyana

Trinidad & Tobago and Haiti opened their respective FIBA 3x3 AmeriCup qualifying campaigns with wins over St. Kitts & Nevis and Guyana in San Juan, Puerto Rico on Thursday afternoon.

T&T secured a 21-14 win over St. Kitts & Nevis thanks to 11 points from Ahkeel Boyd and eight points from Tyrese Fields to take the early lead in Qualifying Group B.

Dario Esdaille led St. Kitts & Nevis with six points while Nashorn Maynard had five.

Haiti took the early Group A lead with a 17-15 win over Guyana thanks to nine points from Farnold Degand and seven points from Jeffrey Coby.

Harold Adams led the way for Guyana with seven points.

St. Lucia opened their campaign in Group C with a 13-19 loss at the hands of Guatemala.

The rest of the qualifying round will be played on Thursday and the winners of Groups A, B and C will advance to the main tournament.

Haiti, Guyana and the Cayman Islands are in Group A while Group B consists of Trinidad & Tobago, St. Kitts & Nevis, Jamaica and Cuba.

Group C includes Guatemala, St. Lucia and Colombia.

The next two games on deck for Caribbean sides include Jamaica taking on St. Kitts & Nevis at 3:35pm Jamaica time and Cayman Islands facing Guyana at 4:25pm Jamaica time.
