Both Jamaica’s men’s and women’s basketball teams failed to make it past the quarterfinal stage at the FIBA 3x3 AmeriCup which came to an end on Sunday.

The men put up a gallant effort but ultimately came up short against eventual champions the USA 14-21.

Nicholai Brown led the Jamaicans in scoring with six points while Xavier Cheatham-Sewell had a solid all-round performance with five points and five rebounds.

James Parrott and Mitch Hahn both had six points for the Americans who went on to defeat the Dominican Republic 21-15 in the semi-finals and hosts Puerto Rico 21-18 in the finals.

On the women’s side, they missed out on a place in the last four by just one point after losing 11-12 to Puerto Rico in the last eight.

Crystal Primm had five points and four rebounds while Tiffany Plummer grabbed nine rebounds to go along with her four points.

The hosts went on to the semi-finals where they lost to a dominant USA 8-21.

The USA eventually just missed out on the double, losing 18-19 to Canada in overtime.
