The St. Kitts and Nevis Football Association (SKNFA) took a significant step toward enhancing club operations and fostering professional growth with the launch of its first Club Development Workshop on Saturday, February 15 at Football House. This inaugural session marked the beginning of a series of educational initiatives designed to equip SKNFA member clubs with the necessary tools for sustainable development and compliance with regional regulations.
The workshop, led by SKNFA Deputy General Secretary Jamir Claxton, focused on two critical areas: the club licensing program and the SKNFA Member Assistance Grant.
“We're going to be doing a number of workshops for clubs as part of the club development initiative," Claxton explained. "This one today focuses on the club licensing program and the member assistance program. We are working with clubs to ensure they meet club licensing requirements, which is essential for participation in regional and international competitions.”
Club licensing has become a mandatory requirement set by Concacaf, and the SKNFA is committed to helping clubs navigate the process efficiently.
Claxton also elaborated on the Member Assistance Grant, an annual initiative through which SKNFA clubs can access financial support, provided they meet the necessary criteria.
“The grant is designed to assist clubs with development, and there are specific rules and guidelines governing how the funds are distributed and utilized,” he said. “This workshop ensures clubs fully understand the process, accountability measures, and best practices to maximize their resources effectively.”
The workshop saw full participation from all SKNFA member clubs, reflecting a shared commitment to elevating the standards of football administration in St. Kitts and Nevis. The SKNFA has emphasized that this is just the beginning, with additional workshops scheduled throughout the year to address other key areas such as governance, financial management, marketing, and technical development.
Claxton reiterated that the ultimate goal is to create a more professional and efficient football ecosystem.
“This initiative aligns with our commitment to fostering sustainable growth and operational excellence within our member clubs,” he added. “By continuously providing educational opportunities, we ensure that our clubs are well-equipped to compete at the highest level, both locally and internationally.”
With this first Club Development Workshop deemed a success, the SKNFA remains steadfast in its mission to provide ongoing support and resources to clubs, ensuring that St. Kitts and Nevis football continues to thrive. As the workshops continue throughout the year, clubs can expect further guidance in key areas that will enhance their competitiveness and professional standards, ultimately benefiting players, officials, and the wider football community.
