The Guyana Harpy Eagles kicked off the defence of their West Indies Championship title with a dominant 10-wicket win over the Barbados Pride on day three of their first round encounter at the Guyana National Stadium on Friday.
The Harpy Eagles carried on to 382 off 101.5 overs in their first innings after starting the day 315-3 and trailing the Pride by 31.
Matthew Forde added to his excellent debut with 5-69 from 19.5 overs to lead the Pride while Jair McAllister added two wickets while conceding 68 runs in 13 overs.
Trailing by 36, Barbados were blown away for just 112 in 41.4 overs in their second innings, leaving the Harpy Eagles needing just 77 for victory.
Captain Raymon Reifer led the way with 37 while Jonathan Drakes and Kevin Wickham made 26 and 23, respectively.
Debutant Richie Looknauth added to his 4-69 in the first innings with 5-23 off 11.4 overs to lead the demolition with his off-spin.
Ronaldo Alimohamed provided good support with 2-36 from nine overs.
Harpy Eagles openers Tagenarine Chanderpaul and Matthew Nandu then guided the defending champions to victory without the loss of a wicket.
Chanderpaul made 40* while Nandu finished 33* as they needed 28 overs to reach 78-0.
