A Trinidad and Tobago Red Force official has called on Cricket West Indies (CWI) to intervene following allegations of ball tampering by the Guyana Harpy Eagles during their decisive final-round West Indies Championship match at Queen’s Park Oval.

The official, who requested anonymity, expressed frustration after the Harpy Eagles were penalised twice for ball tampering—once in each innings—leading to Red Force being awarded five penalty runs on both occasions. The official described the actions as a serious breach of sportsmanship in what is expected to be "the gentleman's game."

"Firstly, it is very disappointing. They did it in the first innings and got reprimanded with five penalty runs. The second innings, the same thing happened," the official told Newsday.

With the regional four-day title hanging in the balance, the high-stakes clash has been overshadowed by the controversy. Heading into the final day, Guyana hold a narrow six-point lead in the standings and are in control of the match, having posted 463 in reply to the Red Force's 240. The hosts, at the time of reporting, were 228-4, five runs away from making the Harpy Eagles bat again.

The Red Force official voiced concerns about the integrity of the match, suggesting that the alleged ball tampering may have contributed to Guyana's commanding position.

"They are on top of the game. We don’t know if that was one of the factors that made them on top in the first innings and again in the second. We are trying to fight to win a title, and we have to put up with this," he said.

Calling for stronger disciplinary action, the official urged CWI to investigate and implement harsher sanctions, not just for the individuals involved but potentially for the entire team.

"There should be bigger sanctions when you get caught with this. We don’t know what is going to be the outcome, but I think CWI should get involved. There should be sanctions for the players involved and for the entire team," he insisted.
