James Norwood double sees Oldham beat Hartlepool

Latics top scorer Norwood sealed victory at Victoria Park by tapping home his seventh goal in six appearances – and 14th of the season – from Josh Stones’ cross in the 63rd minute.

The 33-year-old striker had earlier given the visitors a 17th-minute lead, collecting a pass from Wigan loanee Stones to finish beyond Pools goalkeeper Joel Dixon.

Joe Grey marked his 100th Hartlepool appearance by slotting the hosts ahead in the fourth minute but the advantage was short-lived as Stones levelled five minutes later with a neat finish on the turn.

James Norwood scores two penalties as Oldham move up to fifth

Latics took the lead seven minutes before the break after top scorer Norwood was brought down in the penalty area and fired the resulting spot-kick into the bottom corner.

Mike Fondop – who had tested Barnet goalkeeper Josh Keeley as the second half got under way – was felled in the area after 51 minutes and Norwood made no mistake as he picked out the top corner with some force for his second penalty of the night to take his league tally to 16 for the season.

Callum Stead sent a header against a post as third-placed Barnet failed in their attempt to pull a goal back, while – at the other end – Keeley pushed Latics debutant Tom Conlon’s free-kick onto a post but the points were already safe.

James Norwood strike helps Oldham edge seven-goal thriller against Rochdale

Jimmy Keohane netted a hat-trick for hosts Rochdale, but it failed to halt the winless run of James McNulty’s team, which has now extended to eight games in all competitions after this 4-3 loss.

Nathan Sheron put Oldham ahead after 16 minutes before a goal frenzy occurred following half-time with Devarn Green making it 2-0 in the 49th-minute.

Keohane reduced the deficit soon after before he levelled the scores on the hour mark for Rochdale.

Hallam Hope immediately put Oldham back ahead and Norwood’s smart finish from a tight angle with 18 minutes left looked to make the points safe for the visitors.

Keohane sparked an exciting finale when he completed his hat-trick with a close-range finish from a corner and despite 16 minutes of stoppage ime, Oldham held on to move up to 10th in the Vanarama National League.

James Norwood’s second-half goal gives Oldham win against Woking

The 33-year-old striker produced a composed finish just past the hour mark after being played in by Devarn Green as the Latics snapped a three-game winless league run.

Dan Gardner nearly doubled Oldham’s lead five minutes later but his effort crashed against the underside of the crossbar.

Prior to Norwood breaking the deadlock, Woking goalkeeper Alexis Andre made several fine saves to deny Dan Ward, Norwood and Charlie Raglan.

Woking sacked manager Darren Sarll this week and put Ian Day in temporary charge after a run of seven defeats in nine games.

They went close early on when striker Dennon Lewis saw his fierce strike well saved by Oldham goalkeeper Matthew Hudson.

Jamey Osborne earns Solihull last-gasp win at Wealdstone

The defender scored with virtually the game’s final kick to ensure his team stayed in control of their own destiny, with a clutch of sides beneath them in the table having games in hand.

Substitute Tobi Adeyemo had the chance to put the home side in front when he cracked an effort at goal five minutes from time, which was well saved by Solihull goalkeeper Nick Hayes.

But defeat in the final moments means just a point now separates Wealdstone from the relegation places with six games to play.

Jason Prior and Tom Blair on target as Dorking beat Hartlepool

There was little to choose between the sides in a nip-and-tuck first half, although Hartlepool goalkeeper Pete Jameson had to be alert to tip away Dan Gallagher’s header from a corner.

George Francomb did well to scramble clear at the beginning of the second half then turned provider for the opener, with his corner to the back post headed home by Prior in the 63rd minute.

Emmanuel Dieseruvwe thought he had levelled but his tap-in was chalked off for offside before Blair sealed the points for Dorking, who defeated Ebbsfleet in midweek, after drilling low across Jameson.

Jason Prior header seals comeback victory for Dorking against Southend

The Shrimpers opened the scoring in the third minute when Harry Caldwell tucked the ball home from close range following a counter-attack from the away side.

The hosts levelled things up just before the half-time break when Ryan Seager took advantage of some loose possession at the back and slotted in to make it 1-1.

Dorking turned the game around with 11 minutes to go as the ball was put back across goal, with Jason Prior on hand to head home to put them in front.

Southend pushed in search for an equaliser and some late pressure ended with Jack Wood’s effort going straight to Harrison Male.

Jason Prior penalty miss costly as Dorking held by Eastleigh

Eastleigh goalkeeper Joe McDonnell saved Prior’s 79th-minute spot kick after the Dorking striker had been brought down by visiting midfielder Nigel Atangana.

Prior had earlier gone closest for his side when his effort clipped the woodwork in the 20th minute before Sebastian Bowerman fired over from the rebound.

Eastleigh thought they had taken the lead two minutes earlier when Scott Quigley headed home Chris Maguire’s cross, but the effort was ruled out for a push during the build up.

Dorking goalkeeper Harrison Male produced a smart save to keep out Charlie Carter’s shot just before half-time and Bobby-Joe Taylor fired wide for the hosts in the second period after running clear on goal.

Jeff Stelling says non-league clubs ‘the lifeblood and soul of English football’

Eastleigh host Hartlepool in the Vanarama National League on Saturday, one of 10 focus fixtures across Non-League Day which celebrates a decade working with Prostate Cancer UK.

As part of the 10-year milestone activities, the Premier League trophy will be on display at the Silverlake Stadium.

Emulating Manchester City in lifting such silverware may be something Eastleigh and Hartlepool supporters can only dream of.

Nevertheless Stelling – who hosted Sky Sports’ Soccer Saturday show for more than 25 years before stepping down at the end of last season – feels that in no way diminishes their standing within the game.

“People forget that they are still the lifeblood and soul of English football – to fans of National League sides or National League North or South sides, their clubs matter just as much to them as Manchester City or Liverpool matter to their fans,” Stelling told the PA news agency.

“They are just as passionate and yet they have to survive on the crumbs from the table. It is a hell of a feast on that Premier League table and yet the lower league sides, and particularly the non-league sides, they get left anything that is pretty much dropped on the floor.

“It will be interesting to see what effect the (new independent football) regulator has. I think none of us are too sure quite how it is going to work and there are certainly grey areas there.

“I read clubs are going to be need to be licenced annually and if they can’t prove they are financially OK then they wont get that licence. Well, what happens to that football club then?

“New owners are not like apples from trees – it is really tough to find someone to back your football club.

“But on the positive side, if there is control over what (money) the Premier League give to the EFL and thereby the entire pyramid, then that has got to be a good thing.”

Stelling, who has been honorary president of Hartlepool since 2015, accepts facing up to the reality of life further down the pyramid can be a tough juggling act.

“You do have to live within your means, or as best you can,” he said.

“You have to balance it up with ambition because every supporter wants you to be ambitious and also no supporter wants you to put the club into financial difficulties. It is an incredibly difficult juggling act.

“You want to have ambition and not to just stagnate, but equally you don’t want to put your club at risk because, at the end of the day, the one thing you absolutely have to have is a football club to support at whatever level.”

During a series of marathon marches since 2016, Stelling has helped raise more than £1.7million for Prostate Cancer UK and increased awareness about a disease which affects one in eight men.

Stelling, 69, said: “If you catch prostate cancer early, it is one of the most treatable of all forms of cancer, so if you do get yourself checked you have got a better chance of discovering it early and then going on and living an absolutely normal and healthy life.

“Prostate Cancer UK are saying take their 30-second risk checker and if you have any concerns, make an appointment with your GP, who can help take it forward.”

Jermaine Anderson goal gives Woking win at Oldham

The Cards, on the back of a three-match losing run, started brightly as an angled shot from forward Dennon Lewis went wide before Oldham midfielder Tom Conlon sent a free-kick just over the bar.

Woking saw a goal ruled out late in the first half from a header by Scott Cuthbert for offside in the build-up

The visitors took the lead a minute after the restart through Jermaine Anderson, which proved enough to secure a crucial three points and move Woking out of the relegation zone, above Ebbsfleet on goal difference.

Joe Garner bags brace as Oldham triumph at Eastleigh

The visitors took the lead after 26 minutes when Nathan Sheron headed the ball back into the box after it had been half cleared and Garner stabbed home from close range.

Liam Hogan might have doubled the lead eight minutes before the break, but his thumping header was well saved by Joe McDonnell.

Eastleigh’s problems mounted within seconds of the restart when midfielder Nigel Atangana was dismissed for a second bookable offence, and the Latics doubled their lead when Hogan played the ball in to Garner, who flicked it around his marker before finding the bottom corner.

Substitute Enzio Boldewijn pulled one back with a 30-yard piledriver with six minutes remaining, but ultimately to no avail.

Joe Garner leaves it late to fire Oldham to victory over Boreham Wood

The 35-year-old headed home in the 81st minute on only his second appearance as the Latics ended a run of two games without a win.

The mid-table visitors arrived at Boundary Park on the back of two wins in a row and grabbed the lead when Mo Sagaf finished off a 29th-minute counter-attack.

But Oldham replied just past the hour mark when Devarn Green squared to Mike Fondop who fired home from just inside the box.

Joe Quigley claims equaliser as Chesterfield edge closer to automatic promotion

Quigley converted his ninth league goal of the season from the spot as the Spireites edged closer to automatic promotion.

James Norwood’s penalty gave Oldham an early lead after Chesterfield’s on-loan goalkeeper Harry Tyrer had brought down Andrew Dallas.

The Latics doubled their lead midway through the first half when Dan Gardner ran on to Dallas’ pass to slot home but the visitors reduced the deficit three minutes later through Bailey Hobson before both sides hit the woodwork.

Oldham defender Nathan Sheron’s header – following a corner – struck the crossbar and Chesterfield midfielder Armando Dobra’s shot came back off a post.

Quigley levelled it up for the Spireites just after the hour mark, converting from the spot after Hobson had been upended in the area.

Joe Quigley snatches dramatic winner for Chesterfield against FC Halifax

Will Grigg had put the hosts ahead early on and Tyrone Williams headed in a second in the 23rd minute before Millenic Alli pulled one back three minutes later.

Luke Summerfield equalised from the penalty spot with 21 minutes left and the Spireites then had Tom Naylor sent off following a second yellow card.

But Jack Senior saw red for Halifax in the 87th minute before Quigley burst through at the death to win it.

Joe Quigley strikes at the death for Chesterfield against Dorking

Paul Cook’s Spireites – who finished third last season – got their new campaign up and running as Ryan Colclough hammered home the opener in the 23rd minute.

Yet semi-professional Dorking were soon level as Jason Prior poked in a Josh Taylor cross.

Prior then turned the tables on the hosts by firing Dorking ahead from the penalty spot in the 52nd minute.

Parity was restored, however, when Colclough got down the left after the hour mark to pick out Liam Mandeville for a point-blank strike.

Seven minutes from full-time, Mandeville sent the home fans into raptures with a fine free-kick.

But three minutes into 14 added on, Sebastian Bowerman turned home a cross for a dramatic late leveller.

There was of course plenty of time left for Quigley to deliver a fantastic headed winner to seal all three points for Chesterfield.

Josh Kay on target as five-star AFC Fylde run riot at Aldershot

Jon Ustabasi began the rout when he was quickest to follow up a corner on the half-hour mark and when Josh Kay fired the second for the visitors shortly after, Cian Harries complained to the referee about an alleged shove and was sent off.

Aldershot were rattled and they fell further behind when Nick Haughton was on target in the 38th minute.

There was no respite after the interval either as Fylde continued to press and were rewarded with Kay’s second and a late strike by Danny Ormerod.

Josh Kelly strike enough for Solihull to see off 10-man Wealdstone

There was little to show from either side after the first 45 minutes, with Kelly, Jamey Osborne and Jon Benton creating the only real chances for the hosts and Max Kretzschmar testing Tommy Simkin with Wealdstone’s best opportunity.

Kelly finally beat Wealdstone keeper Jed Ward with a delicate touch in the 54th minute to score what proved to be the winner.

Stuart Maynard’s side were down to 10 men when Sam Bowen was issued with a second yellow just after the hour mark, but they did not concede another despite a late chance through Joe Newton, who nodded just wide.

Josh Rees double guides Dagenham to comfortable victory over Boreham Wood

Daggers’ summer signing Rees gave his side a flying start when he fired into the top corner in the fourth minute after being set up by Dion Pereira.

Rees then struck his 15th league goal of the campaign from close range, following up to steer home a rebound after Pereira’s shot fell to him in the penalty area.

The Daggers went 3-0 up in the 33rd minute through Ryan Hill, who drove home a low finish from inside the area.

Inih Effiong’s brilliant free-kick all but sealed the points for the Daggers in the 45th minute before Kabongo Tshimanga pulled one back for Boreham Wood in first-half stoppage time.

Josh Rees earns Dagenham point at Oldham

James Norwood put the Latics ahead after four minutes from Josh Lundstram’s cross.

Goalkeeper Matthew Hudson made a fine save from Josh Rees after 25 minutes to keep the Latics ahead.

But Dagenham levelled 16 minutes from time when Rees superbly headed in Charley Kendall’s centre.

Josh Rees returns to haunt ex-club Bromley with late equaliser in Dagenham draw

Bes Topalloj broke the deadlock after 43 minutes and Michael Cheek doubled the home side’s lead in the fifth minute of first-half stoppage-time.

However, Sam Ling pulled one back for the visitors with 20 minutes remaining and Rees – who enjoyed two stints at the Ravens in 2017/18 and 2019/20 – slammed home a dramatic equaliser after a goalmouth scramble.

The draw leaves second-placed Bromley 19 points behind runaway leaders Chesterfield, with the Daggers still 11th.
