The 2025 Texas Relays concluded in spectacular fashion on Saturday with a dazzling performance from Team International, a star-studded quartet featuring Julien Alfred of St. Lucia, Jamaica’s Ackelia Smith, Great Britain’s Dina Asher-Smith, and Ireland’s Rhasidat Adeleke. Blending power and poise, the team clocked a winning time of 3:25.20 to capture the women’s 4x400m Invitational title in emphatic fashion. The winning time was both a meet and facility record.
Adeleke got the team off to a solid start before handing off to Asher-Smith, who kept them in contention. Alfred surged on the third leg, making up ground and handing the baton to Ackelia Smith, who closed strong to take the win ahead of Empire Athletics (3:26.39) and Team USA Red (3:26.59).
But the relay wasn’t the only highlight for Caribbean athletes in Austin.
Carleta Bernard, representing Texas, had herself a breakout weekend. On Friday, she stormed to victory in the women’s 100m with a wind-aided 11.30s run. She returned on Saturday to claim third in the 200m, posting 23.07s against a strong field that included winner Jenna Prandini (22.16).
Also flying the Caribbean flag high was Leah Bertrand of Trinidad and Tobago, who scorched to second place in another 100m final with a windy 10.94s, just behind TCU freshman Indya Mayberry’s 10.91s.
Meanwhile, Naomi London of St. Lucia produced one of the cleanest runs of the meet, finishing fifth overall in her 100m heat with a time of 11.23s—identical to fourth-place finisher Sedrickia Wynn but narrowly edged on thousandths.
