
Jamaican athletes Shantae Foreman and Shanque Williams delivered standout performances to claim victories at the Black and Gold Invitational, held Saturday at the UCF Track & Field/Soccer Complex in Orlando, Florida.
Foreman, representing Clemson University, emerged victorious in the women’s triple jump with a leap of 13.64m (+1.2 m/s), outclassing Skylynn Townsend of Georgia, who finished second with a mark of 13.21m. Danah Nembhard, also of Georgia, claimed third place with 12.96m.
In the women’s 400m, Shanque Williams, also of Clemson, stormed to victory in 52.75 seconds, narrowly edging Sarah Jane Underwood of CPTC - Tracksmith, who clocked 52.79. Alysia Johnson of Kentucky rounded out the top three in 53.21.
Meanwhile, Trinidad and Tobago’s Sanaa Frederick produced a strong run in the women’s 100m, finishing second in 11.49 seconds (+0.4 m/s) behind Georgia’s Reign Redmond, who took the win in 11.35. Maya Tucker of Towson was third in 11.51.
The Black and Gold Invitational served as a key early-season meet for collegiate and unattached athletes, many of whom are building toward peak performances later this year on the international circuit.
