After dominating the 100m finals, the main contenders for the sprint double remain firmly on track, as they advanced to the 200m semi-finals with contrasting performances on day three of the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships at the National Stadium on Thursday.

In Class One, Lacovia High’s Sabrina Dockery, fresh off her world-leading 11.08s victory in the 100m final, barely broke a sweat as she cruised through her heat in 23.22s. The overwhelming sprint double favourite will be joined in the next round by Doniellia Lewis (24.21s) of Holmwood Technical and Renecia Edwards (24.35s) of Edwin Allen—both of whom shared the 100m podium with her. Other key contenders advancing include Edwin Allen’s Jounee Armstrong (24.01s), St Elizabeth Technical’s Rihana Allen (23.93s), and Jody-Ann Daley (24.10s) of Hydel.

Over in Class Two, Muschett High’s Shanoya Douglas—another gold medalist from the 100m—took a conservative approach, clocking 24.95s to secure her spot in the next round. The fastest qualifier was Hydel’s Sashana Campbell with a 24.30s effort, while Wolmer’s Girls’ Natrece East (24.68s) and Edwin Allen’s Kerelle Etienne (24.59s) also progressed comfortably.

For Class Three, the 100m champion, St Jago’s Shannia Campbell, continued her smooth form, advancing with 24.58s, though she was second-fastest overall behind Kevina Bourne (24.41s). The 100m silver medalist, Shayon Smith (25.03s) of St Mary, will hope for better in the next round, while Ferncourt’s Rihanna Scott (24.74s) also booked her place with ease.

Meanwhile, in Class Four, Holmwood Technical’s Adalia Simpson, who dominated the 100m final, stamped her authority once again, leading the qualifiers with a 25.18s clocking. Vere Technical’s Danae Bartley (25.79s) and St Mary Technical’s Dehjanae Stephens (25.96s) continued their solid form to reach the semi-finals, alongside Hydel’s Reneka Reid (25.57s) and Immaculate’s Anya Johnson (25.75s).

The semi-finals are scheduled for Friday.
