South African Ryan Rickelton starred with an unbeaten 62 to lead the Mumbai Indians to an eight-wicket win over Sunil Narine and Andre Russell’s Kolkata Knight Riders in TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) action at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Monday.

Mumbai entered Monday’s encounter looking for their first win of the season after a pair of losses and chose to field first after skipper Hardik Pandya called right at the toss.

Debuting left-arm pacer Ashwani Kumar proved to be too much to handle for the KKR batsmen on the day as his 4-24 from four overs were key in dismissing the defending champions for a sub-par 116 in 16.2 overs.

Angkrish Raghuvanshi was the top scorer with 26 off 16 balls while Ramandeep Singh and Manish Panday made 22 and 19, respectively.

Russell made 5 off 11 balls while Narine, returning after missing their last game with an illness, made a two-ball duck at the top of the order.

Pacer Deepak Chahar provided good support for Kumar with 2-19 from his four overs.

Rickelton then spearheaded the successful chase with 62* off 41 balls including four fours and five sixes as Mumbai needed just 12.5 overs to reach 121-2.

Suryakumar Yadav was also at his destructive best with 27* off just nine balls including three fours and a pair of sixes.

Russell took 2-35 from 2.5 overs.

Mumbai will look to build momentum with another positive result when they face Nicholas Pooran and the Lucknow Super Giants in Lucknow on Friday while KKR will look to bounce back against the Sunrisers Hyderabad on Thursday in Kolkata.
