Jessica Pegula battled to a 6-4 6-7 (3-7) 6-2 victory over Emma Raducanu to reach the semi-finals of the Miami Open on Wednesday.
Emma Raducanu's excellent run at the Miami Open came to an end as she fell to a 6-4 6-7 (3-7) 6-2 defeat to Jessica Pegula.
Raducanu was enjoying her deepest run at a tournament since she reached the last eight at the Korea Open last September.
But the Brit ultimately fell short against world number four Pegula, who will take on Alexandra Eala in the semi-finals.
Despite falling behind, Raducanu surged back to lead 5-2 in the second set before she called a medical timeout.
Once play resumed, Pegula hit back, saving four set points to force a tie-break, but Raducanu regained her composure to push onto a decider.
Pegula, though, had the momentum, and reeled off the last eight points of the match to seal victory.
"It was tough. I played a good first set, a little let down in the second, got it back, went up 2-0 in the tie-break, but the it kind of flipped," Pegula said.
"She started moving the ball really well, serving good. Sometimes it just happens, but I just wanted to come out in the third really strong, really quick, and just kind of jump on her and not keep the third set too close."
Data Debrief: Pegula powers on
Since the start of the 2020 season, Pegula (11) is one of three players to have reached 10+ WTA-1000 semi-finals, along with Iga Swiatek (19) and Aryna Sabalenka (14).
It is those deep runs in big tournaments that have helped propel her towards the upper echelons of the rankings, though it would have been easy for a wobble to set in after Raducanu took the second set.
Yet Pegula instead turned on the style and finished with a winner-unforced error differential of +15 in the third set, equalling Linda Noskova (+15 vs Diana Shnaider in Dubai) for the largest differential in a third set at WTA 1000 events in 2025.
