Sixth seed Elena Rybakina made light work of Emerson Jones in her first-round tie at the Australian Open.

Elena Rybakina cast aside Emerson Jones in under an hour to seal her progress to the Australian Open second round.

Rybakina, a beaten finalist in Melbourne two years ago, breezed past her Australian opponent 6-1 6-1 in just 53 minutes on Tuesday.

It marked the quickest match of the 2025 tournament so far.

Rybakina proved simply too powerful, especially on her serve, drilling 11 aces – a tally bettered by only Coco Gauff (12) and Clara Tauson (13) across the previous first-round matches.

Iva Jovic is next up for Rybakina, whose sole grand slam title came at Wimbledon in 2022.

Data Debrief: Rybakina right at home in Melbourne

Rybakina is one of just four women to have reached the second round at the Australian Open since the start of the 2020 season, alongside Danielle Collins, Elise Mertens and Iga Swiatek.

In dropping just two games, Rybakina set a personal best at the tournament, bettering the three she dropped against Kaja Juvan in the second round in 2023.
