Barbados’ national karate team is celebrating a historic moment after securing two bronze medals at the Central Caribbean Cup Karate Championships, held at the Gimnasio Roberto Durán in Panama over the weekend.
Leading from the front was team captain Sheridan Greaves, whose standout performance in the senior men’s +84kg division earned Barbados its second medal of the tournament. Greaves, known for his speed, tactical precision, and relentless fighting spirit, delivered a composed and confident showing under pressure to clinch bronze on Saturday.
Greaves' medal not only underlined his own calibre as a competitor but also served as a source of inspiration for the rest of the team. His leadership and determination were pivotal throughout the championship.
Earlier in the competition, Delano Allsopp claimed Barbados’ first medal of the tournament, capturing bronze in the Under-21 -75kg category, setting the tone for the team’s medal success.
While there were near-misses—Ric-Anne Brathwaite narrowly missed a podium finish in the senior women’s -68kg kumite, and Joseph Tseu reached the quarter-finals in senior men’s kata repechage—the overall campaign marked a significant step forward for Barbados on the regional stage.
