Legendary former West Indies captain, Sir Clive Lloyd, has singled out West Indies ODI and T20I captain Shai Hope as the man who should replace Kraigg Brathwaite as Test skipper for the regional side.
Brathwaite’s decision to step down from the role of Test captain, a role he served in since March 2021, was announced on Monday.
Lloyd, in a recent interview with Television Jamaica, said he believes that Hope should be seriously looked at for the role.
“He seems to be doing fairly well in the One-Day format but I thought he might’ve been the guy to take over but that’s just my judgement,” Lloyd said.
“It’s up to them now to pick somebody for the long term,” he added.
Lloyd also gave credit to Brathwaite for his time in the role.
“He has really done a marvelous job during his time as captain,” he said.
Hope, who has served as ODI captain since 2023, has not played a Test match since December 2021.
During that time away from the longest format, he has become one of the world’s best players in the ODI format.
He was also recently named as the West Indies new T20I captain, replacing Rovman Powell.
