Bahamian Baylor Bears freshman Valdez “VJ” Edgecombe Jr has been projected as a top five pick in this summer’s NBA draft based on the latest mock draft published by Bleacher Report on Tuesday.
The 6’5” 180 lbs guard has been projected to be selected fourth overall in the draft by the Charlotte Hornets who are currently one of the worst teams in the NBA with a record of 14-42.
In his first, and probably only collegiate basketball season, Edgecombe has been a bright spot for the Bears whose season has failed to live up to their lofty expectations to this point.
The Bimini native has appeared in 25 games and boasts averages of 14.7 points, 5.2 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 2 steals while shooting a respectable 44.7% from the field, 34.5% from three and 80.4% at the free throw line.
Bleacher report listed his pro comparisons as Andrew Wiggins, Victor Oladipo and Iman Shumpert.
He will be hoping to lead a change in fortune for the Bears this season. They currently find themselves 16-11 overall and 8-8 in the Big 12 Conference, good enough for seventh.
They take on the Cincinnati Bearcats on Tuesday.
