Jamaican-American Olympic silver medalist Sandra Farmer-Patrick has been named to the USA coaching staff for the upcoming 2025 World Athletics Indoor Championships in Nanjing, China, where she will oversee the women’s sprints and hurdles.

The appointment marks a milestone for the Jamaican-born American athlete, who has dedicated much of her life to track and field—first as a world-class competitor and now as a mentor guiding the next generation of elite athletes.

Expressing her excitement over the opportunity, Farmer-Patrick took to social media, saying, “Honoured to be named to the coaching staff for the 2025 World Athletics Indoor Championships in Nanjing, China - overseeing the women’s Sprints/Hurdles.”

Born Sandra Miller in Kingston, Jamaica, she spent her early years on the island, living with an aunt and grandmother before moving to Brooklyn, New York, at age 11. There, she was adopted by her great-aunt Vita Farmer, who raised her in a deeply Pentecostal household. It was in an effort to get out of the house that she first joined the Flashettes Track Club, setting the foundation for what would become a remarkable career in athletics.

Farmer-Patrick made her mark on the global stage as a dominant force in the 400m hurdles, winning silver medals at both the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona and the 1993 World Championships in Stuttgart. She also clinched victory at the World Cup in 1989 and 1992 and set a U.S. national record of 52.79 seconds in 1993—a time that once ranked her second on the world all-time list and still places her among the best in history.

Her transition into coaching has allowed her to pass on decades of experience and expertise, helping mould future champions in an event that has produced legends like Dalilah Muhammad and Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone.

Now, as she prepares to lead Team USA’s female sprinters and hurdlers on the world stage, Farmer-Patrick’s impact on the sport continues to grow, ensuring that her legacy extends far beyond her achievements on the track.
