Usain Bolt is among a number of big-name stars who will take part in the first-ever FIFA 20 eSoccer Aid event today in the name of charity.

The eight-time Olympic gold medallist, who retired from athletics after the 2017 World Championships, will captain the Soccer Aid World XI FC against an England selection led by musician Robbie Williams.

Soccer Aid is an annual charity football match between the two teams, both comprised of celebrities and former professional football players.

The game is usually held in June but could not go ahead this month due to the coronavirus pandemic, so this online alternative is being used as a substitute in the short term.

The live tournament is being held to generate donations for Unicef to help stop the spread of coronavirus and limit the impact on children’s lives.  Every one pound donated will be matched by the UK government.

The tournament consists of eight 1-on-1 matches between gamers and celebrities from England and the rest of the World.

Captains Bolt and Williams will face off.

The winner will be decided on the overall aggregate score.

The roster of both teams is absolutely impressive. In addition to stars from sports and music, some well-known esports figures will also be competing.

Joining Bolt and Williams at this year’s competition are singers Liam Payne and Olly Murs, Olympic athlete Mo Farah, Hollywood actor James McAvoy, as well as football freestyler and presenter Liv Cooke.

Usain Bolt said: “I’m excited to be able to captain the side again, albeit in a slightly different setting. It’s incredible to see Soccer Aid World XI FC in the game and I can’t wait to get going in eSoccer Aid for Unicef playing with the team.
