Hosts Trinidad and Tobago got off to an excellent start in the First Citizens ‘Jewels of the Caribbean’ Women's Under-20 tournament on Sunday when their "Red Angels" team got a comfortable 5-0 win against Dominica at the Larry Gomes Stadium in Malabar.
The Ayana Russell-coached “Red Angels,” one of the two Trinidad & Tobago teams in the tournament along with the “White Angels” dominated the 70-minute affair in the second game of the Sunday double-header, with Jamaica and St. Vincent & the Grenadines playing out a 1-1 draw in the day’s first game.
Orielle Martin stole the show for the hosts with goals in the 14th, 34th, a penalty in the 37th minute and another goal four minutes later while the fifth goal came from T’kayai Dennis 20 minutes into the second half.
In the first game, Alyssa Stephenson gave the Jamaicans the lead in the sixth minute before, 10 minutes before the halftime interval, Nasheeka Prescod equalized for the Vincentians.
Action continues on Monday with a double header at Ato Boldon Stadium with Jamaica taking on Dominica before “White Angels” take on St. Vincent & the Grenadines.
