The Government of Trinidad and Tobago has fulfilled its commitment to the Trinidad and Tobago Football Association (TTFA) by providing a cheque for $6.8 million to support the Soca Warriors' preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign.
On Thursday, the Ministry of Sport and Community Development handed over the funds, representing the first installment of a pledged US $2 million to be distributed over two years. The second payment, amounting to one million US dollars, is scheduled for 2026.
A media release from the Sport Company of Trinidad and Tobago (SporTT) detailed the handover, noting that Minister of Sport and Community Development Shamfa Cudjoe-Lewis, along with Deputy Permanent Secretary Beverly Reid-Samuel and SporTT's head of sport development, Justin Latapy-George, presented the cheque to TTFA President Kieron Edwards.
The funds will be used to support the men's national football team's journey for the 2024-2025 season as they prepare to resume competition for a spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, set to be hosted across Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
Trinidad and Tobago currently sit second in their qualification group on four points, two behind Costa Rica, with St. Kitts and Nevis (three points) in third. Both teams represent the Twin Island Republic’s next opponents for the June 2025 resumption.
The statement from SporTT urged national support for the team.
“Let’s rally behind our team as they aim for glory on the world stage.”
