Lacovia’s Sabrina Dockery and Calabar’s Jamal Stephenson produced impressive 100m wins at Saturday’s Purewater/R. Danny Williams/ JC Development Meet at Jamaica College’s Ashenheim Stadium in Kingston.
Dockery, who won gold in the Class Two 100m at the ISSA Boys and Girls Championships as well as the Under-20 Girls 100m at the Carifta Games last year, opened her 2025 season with a meet record 11.39 to win the A Final of the Class One Girls 100m on Saturday ahead of Edwin Allen’s Alexxe Henry (11.85) and Holmwood’s Doniella Lewis (11.97).
The B Final saw last year’s Class One 100m runner-up at Champs, Edwin Allen’s Jounee Armstrong, run a season’s best 11.82 to win ahead of St. Catherine High’s Rohanna Sudlow (12.16) and Holmwood’s Abrina Wright (12.27).
The Class Two A final saw Muschette High’s 2024 World Under-20 Championships 200m bronze medallist Shanoya Douglas cruise to 11.56 to win ahead of Edwin Allen’s Kerrelle Etienne (11.90) and Hydel’s Poshana Lee-Blake (12.12).
On the boys’ side, Calabar High’s Jamal Stephenson signaled his intent for a breakout season with an impressive personal best 10.43, bettering his previous 10.64, to win the A Final of the Class One Boys event.
Muschette High’s Johan-Ramaldo Smythe ran a season’s best 10.55 for second while Stephenson’s Calabar teammate Khamani Gordon ran 10.62 in third.
The B Final saw another eye-catching performance as St. Mary Tech’s Kenrick Sharpe produced a personal best 10.54 to win ahead of William Knibb’s Jabari Matheson, who ran a personal best 10.65.
Edwin Allen’s Romario Finnigan was third in 10.89.
Sharpe was busy on Saturday, also recording a new personal best with 48.23 to win the 400m final ahead of William Knibb’s Joshua Wint (48.59) and Cornwall’s Mario Birch (48.98).
In Class Two, Kingston College’s Jordan Rehedul may have established himself as the man to beat in the event this season with a meet record and personal best 48.23, almost a second faster than anybody else on the day.
His teammate Jason Pitter was second fastest with 49.13 while Munro College’s Oneil Brown was third with 49.16. Both Pitter and Brown ran personal bests as well.
The Girls 400m hurdles saw another impressive performance from Hydel’s Aaliyah Mullings who ran a personal best and meet record 58.78 to win.
