Brent Sancho believes his appointment to FIFA’s Players' Status Chamber (PSC) will be beneficial to the Caribbean.
Sancho, a 44-year-old Trinidad and Tobago defender was named among the 32 members of the committee that sets up and monitors compliance with the Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players and determines the status of players for various FIFA competitions.
“It is a huge achievement for me personally and more importantly, it benefits the Caribbean as the knowledge and experience gained will be transferable to the Caribbean,” he said.
“I will be in a position to relay best practices to the region and to give more scope to whatever is being transmitted by FIFA.”
The PSC committee that will become operational on October 1, will be chaired by Javier Vijande Penas of Argentina, who will have Kenya’s Sarah Ochwada as Deputy Chairman.
In addition to Sancho, the only former player and the only Caribbean representative the committee is comprised of Loic Alves from France, Jesus Arroyo from Spain, Lamin Kaba Bajo from the Gambia, Juan Baldovino from Peru, Amarilis Belisario of Venezuela, Gursimran Brar from India, Natalia Chiriac from Moldova, Charlie Cuzzetto from Canada, Gregory Durand from France, Louis Everard from the Netherlands, Rizky Fatmala from Indonesia, Stephen Felix from Vanuatu, Thulaganyo Gaoshubelwe from South Africa, Kristy Hill from New Zealand, Angelica Islas from Mexico, Julie Jorgensen from Denmark, Luis Kannonikoff from Paraguay, Ursuline Zeinabou Kouyate Epse Dah from the Ivory Coast, Yoichiro Kuriyama from Japan, Christina Labrie from the United States, Pegie Leys from Belgium, Moran Meiri from Israel, Castellar Modesto Guimaraes Neto from Brazil, Farah Mohammed from New Zealand, Francisco Jose Policarpo Baptista from Angola, Ghanem Saleh from Jordan and Yordis Solis from Panama.
Meanwhile, Sancho, the interim chairman of the Trinidad and Tobago Pro League, is in the United Kingdom where he is “finishing up FIFA’s Club-Management Course. He leaves for Spain in two weeks for the World Football Summit.
In a couple of months, he said, he travels to Switzerland for the completion of the club management course.
