Former Harbour View centre-back Romaine Brackenridge is eager to add value to his new club, Slingerz FC, as they chase glory in the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Elite League.

With winning as his only objective, the 30-year-old Jamaican defender has joined the Vergenoegen-based outfit, hoping to play a crucial role in their title aspirations.

“It’s a blessing to be part of the Slingerz FC family,” Brackenridge said on the sidelines of his first training session at the GFF National Training Centre in Providence.

Brackenridge, one of the club’s key signings for the season, brings a wealth of experience to the team. He arrives from Harbour View FC, where he spent the last two seasons anchoring their defence in the Jamaica Premier League (JPL).

His impressive resume includes two JPL titles—one with Harbour View in 2022 and another with Portmore United in 2019. Additionally, he was a key figure in Portmore United’s triumph in the 2019 CONCACAF Caribbean Club Championship.

Now, Brackenridge is determined to channel that winning mentality into Slingerz FC’s campaign.

“I came here to win, not to participate. With my talent, coming to this club, I’m here to win things and make the club better than it is right now,” he stated.

Slingerz FC has long been a dominant force in Guyanese football, having won every major domestic tournament it entered since its inception in 2013. The club was crowned the inaugural GFF Elite League champions in 2016 but temporarily stepped away from competition due to a dispute with the federation.

Since their return in 2022, they have been on a mission to reclaim their place at the top, finishing as runners-up last season to defending champions Guyana Defence Force (GDF) FC.

Brackenridge remains laser-focused on helping his new team, under head coach, Jamaal Shabazz, take that final step toward reclaiming the title.

“My priority is this team. First, I want to focus on making Slingerz FC the best it can be, and when the time comes, we will take care of the competition,” he said confidently.

Determined to leave a lasting impact, Brackenridge emphasized his commitment to hard work and success.

“I plan to hand back this jersey in a better place than when I received it. I’ll put in the work, day in and day out, to ensure that happens,” Brackenridge added.

Brackenridge will be joined by other key acquisitions, including former Canadian U-20 international defender Terique Mohammed and ex-GDF FC talisman Kelsey Benjamin, as Slingerz FC builds a squad capable of toppling the reigning champions.
