President of the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board, Azim Bassarath, has expressed his heartfelt gratitude after being re-elected as Vice President of Cricket West Indies (CWI) during the regional board’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on Saturday at the St. James Club in Antigua and Barbuda.
Bassarath, who was returned unopposed, will serve another three-year term alongside President Dr. Kishore Shallow, who also retained his post without challenge. Their re-election ushers in the first full term under CWI’s new governance reform, which introduces term limits aimed at improving transparency, accountability, and long-term planning within the organization.
Taking to social media after the AGM, Bassarath said he was “truly honoured” to continue in the role, describing President Shallow’s leadership as “a constant source of inspiration.”
“This is an exciting time for West Indies cricket,” Bassarath wrote. “I am committed to working alongside President Shallow and our leadership team to continue growing and developing the sport of cricket across the region. Together, we will strive to build on the legacy of West Indies cricket and create opportunities for the next generation of cricketers.”
He also extended thanks to the CWI members and all who supported him during the electoral process.
“The work continues, and I look forward to the challenges and successes ahead as we push for a brighter future for West Indies cricket.”
In Saturday’s vote, Shallow received unanimous support from all six territorial boards, earning 12 votes, while Bassarath received the backing of four territories, securing eight votes.
The leadership duo will now turn their attention to implementing ongoing developmental initiatives, navigating the commercial realities of modern cricket, and guiding West Indies teams through an increasingly competitive global landscape.
