India lead Australia by 145 runs after the second day of the final Test after impressive individual performances on both sides.

Risabh Pant top-scored for India with 61 runs on the second day of the final Test in Australia, helping his side to 141-6 at stumps and a lead of 145.

Pant's eye-catching knock off just 33 deliveries came at an opportune time for the tourists, with Scott Boland having put Australia in a commanding position.

The 35-year-old bowler took three quick wickets of KL Rahul (13), Yashasvi Jaiswal (22) and Virat Kohli (6) at a cost of just 17 runs, which had left India 59-3.

Boland would also later claim the wicket of Nitish Kumar Reddy (4) to complete his four-wicket haul at figures of 4-42.

Earlier in the day, debutant Beau Webster – in the side for the underperforming Mitchell Marsh – had top-scored in Australia's first innings with 57, helping them reach181 all out.

Australia finished their first innings four runs behind India, though the visitors' efforts were soured by the departure from the field of captain and key bowler Jasprit Bumrah.

Bumrah left the SCG to have an injury assessed, although was spotted returning before the end of play.

Going into day three, the fate of the Test match could yet be decided on whether Bumrah – the top wicket taker in Test matches in 2024 – is fit to bowl in Australia's run chase.

Data debrief: Pant earns place in history with impressive knock

Pant reached his half-century in just 29 balls in Sydney, which is the second-fastest 50 by an Indian in Test cricket.

Aside from Bumrah, meanwhile, India's other seamers came away with figures of 8-132, which is their best of any innings during the tour of Australia.

For the hosts, Webster became the first Australian to score a half century on debut since Adam Voges in 2015.
