Jamaican Olympian Jordan Scott delivered a stunning performance at the Penn Select meet as he leapt to a personal best and world-leading 17.14m in the men’s triple jump at the Jane and David Ott Centre in Philadelphia on Saturday.
Scott, representing Precision Athletics, showcased his class by achieving the winning mark on his very first attempt.
The 27-year-old's leap surpassed his previous best of 17.08m and firmly established him as the standout athlete in the competition. His consistency was equally impressive, as he followed up with marks of 16.80m, 16.92m, 16.61m, and 16.67m—each of which would have secured him victory.
This, as his closest competition came from Daniel Arana of Rutgers, whose best effort was 15.03m, while Keven Kevelier of Monmouth took third with a jump of 14.39m.
Though it is still early days yet, Scott’s jump somewhat signals his readiness to make an impact on the global stage this season, with his main target being the World Athletics Championships in Japan.
He made his Olympic debut in Paris last year, where he placed ninth in the qualification round with a leap of 16.36m.
His other accolades include a fifth-place finish in the triple jump at the 2014 Youth Olympic Games, two world championships appearances (2019, 2022), and a fifth-place finish in the triple jump final at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. He was also the 2019 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Indoor champion.
