Track star Jereem Richards added another accolade to his illustrious career, as he was named Senior Sportsman of the Year, while cricketer Karishma Ramharack copped the Senior Sportswoman of the Year title at the First Citizens Sports Foundation Awards ceremony on Saturday.

The event, themed “The Power of Perseverance,” also honoured cyclists Makaira Wallace and Jelani Nedd as Youth Sportswoman and Youth Sportsman of the Year, respectively, as the Twin Island Republic celebrated its top athletes and revealed the 2025 Hall of Fame inductees at the Hyatt Regency in Port of Spain.

Richards’ standout performance came at the Paris Olympics, where he clocked a blazing 43.78 seconds in the men’s 400m final, narrowly missing the bronze medal by four hundredths of a second. Despite his fourth-place finish, the time set a new national record and vaulted him into 16th place on the all-time men’s 400m performance list.

The 30-year-old’s achievements cemented his status as one of Trinidad and Tobago’s premier athletes and underscored his ability to perform under pressure on the global stage.

Ramharack, 29, whose off-spin bowling was pivotal in the West Indies women’s cricket team’s success last year, stood out among her peers. At the ICC T20 Women’s World Cup in the UAE, Ramharack captured six wickets at an average of 13.83, including a match-winning 4-17 against Bangladesh that secured an eight-wicket victory and earned her the Player of the Match award.

Her excellence extended to bilateral series against Pakistan and Sri Lanka, where she consistently delivered key performances, taking four wickets in each series.

The ceremony highlighted the breadth of athletic talent across Trinidad and Tobago, with over 90 athletes from more than 30 national sporting organizations nominated. The National Men’s Hockey 5s World Cup team received the Lystra D. Lewis Memorial Team of the Year award for their outstanding performance.

Meanwhile, the evening also celebrated the forthcoming induction of two sporting icons into the Hall of Fame—cricketer Samuel Badree and athlete Wendell Williams, whose contributions to their respective disciplines have left an indelible mark on the nation’s sporting history.
