Defending 60m hurdles world champion and record holder Devynne Charlton will lead a strong five-member Bahamian team to the 2025 World Athletics Indoor Championships in Nanjing, China, from March 21-23.
Charlton, who won silver at the 2022 World Indoor Championships before storming to gold in 2024, will be aiming to defend her title on the global stage. She enters the championships as the world record holder, having set a historic 7.65-second mark at last year’s event. The Bahamian sprint hurdler also began her 2025 season in fine form, registering an early-season 60m hurdles best at the Armory Track & Field Center in New York.

Joining Charlton on the team is her younger sister Anthaya Charlton, who will compete in the women’s long jump. A senior at the University of Florida, she opened her season in February with a massive personal best and world-leading performance of 6.98m to claim victory at the Razorback Invitational in Fayetteville, Arkansas. With this breakthrough performance, she heads to Nanjing as one of the rising stars to watch.
Denisha Cartwright, another talented sprint hurdler, will join Devynne Charlton in the 60m hurdles. Cartwright, who has been one of the Caribbean’s standout emerging hurdlers, clocked a personal best of 7.78 seconds at the Iowa-Recreation Building in January, proving she is ready to compete among the world’s elite.
In the men’s 400m, Wendal Miller will carry The Bahamas’ legacy in the event, having already posted impressive times this season. Miller clocked 45.67 seconds at the Gibson McCook Relays in Kingston and 45.95 seconds at the WIC Q Meet at GC Foster College in Spanish Town, demonstrating his readiness to compete on the world stage.
Also named to the team is Camile Rutherford, who will look to make her mark in the sprints. With a combination of experienced medalists and rising stars, The Bahamas will be well-represented in Nanjing. The 2025 World Athletics Indoor Championships promises to be another exciting outing for the Caribbean nation, as its athletes look to leave their mark on the global stage.
