Bahamas move closer to semis, T&T face elimination at Concacaf Beach Soccer Champs

Host nation Bahamas took a significant step toward the semi-finals of the 2025 Concacaf Beach Soccer Championship with a hard-fought 3-2 victory over the United States on Wednesday evening at the Malcolm Park Beach Soccer Facility.

In contrast, fellow Caribbean side Trinidad and Tobago teeter on the brink of elimination after a 5-3 loss to Panama.

With these results, Panama moved to the top of Group B with four points, while the Bahamas climbed to second with three points. The United States sits third with one point, and Trinidad and Tobago is yet to register a point.

The Bahamas made a telling move when they produced a thrilling comeback against the United States.

It was the United States that struck first through Cody Valcarcel in the seventh minute of the opening period, but the hosts found their footing in the second period when Brandon Adderley pulled them level in the fourth minute.

Wood Julmis fired the Bahamas into the lead in the 11th minute of the final period, and moments later, Timothy Munnings extended the advantage with a third goal in the fourth minute. The United States scrambled for a response and pulled one back when Valcarcel completed his brace, but the Americans couldn’t find an equalizer.

Earlier in the day, Panama kept their unbeaten record intact with a come-from-behind victory over Trinidad and Tobago.

The game opened at a frenetic pace, as Eliecer García gave Panama the lead in the ninth minute of the first period. The Soca Warriors quickly responded through Jay-Son Joseph a minute later, only for Alfonso Maquensi to restore Panama’s advantage moments after.

Kevon Woodley leveled things once again for Trinidad and Tobago two minutes before the period ended. However, Maquensi struck once more in the dying seconds to give Panama a 3-2 lead ahead of the break.

Woodley added his second goal early in the second period to restore parity at 3-3. But Panama found another gear in the third period, as Maquensi completed his hat-trick in the sixth minute and García grabbed his second of the night in the second minute to put the game to bed.

The group stage concludes on Thursday, with the Bahamas set to face the Soca Warriors, while Panama will lock horns with the United States.

Bahamas can seal a semi-final spot with a win over Trinidad and Tobago, while the Soca Warriors need a convincing victory and other results to go their way to keep their slim hopes alive. Panama will hope to close the group stages on a high against the United States.

The top two teams from each group will contest the semi-finals, and the two finalists will secure coveted spots at the 2025 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup.
