Rana Reider, the head coach at Florida-based Tumbleweed training group, has been warned and ejected from the 2022 World Athletics Championships after gaining ‘unauthorized access’, according to media reports.
Reider has been under investigation for sexual misconduct by the US Centre for SafeSport, an independent body that handles investigations and complaints into abuse and misconduct. He is accused of having an intimate relationship with an 18-year-old British athlete that sparked an investigation by UK Athletics in 2014.
Reider, who coaches Jamaican 400m runner Christopher Taylor and 100m hurdler Britany Anderson, had reportedly gained access to the games on Saturday to assist his athletes, Trayvon Bromell and Marvin Bracy and two others who were competing in the 100m.
According to the English newspaper, The Guardian, Reider was seen and reported to security. When confronted, he refused to leave and he was subsequently apprehended by police, who advised him that if he returned he would be arrested for trespassing.
The newspaper reported that World Athletics confirmed the incident.
“Event security discovered an unaccredited person in the athlete warm-up area,” World Athletics said. “He was asked to leave, and he refused. Police were immediately notified and went to remove him from the venue.”
Both Taylor and Anderson compete on Sunday.
