Nelson Christian “Chris” Stokes, O.D., OLY, Ph.D., a four-time Olympic bobsledder and President of the Jamaica Bobsleigh Federation, will be honoured at Team Jamaica Bickle’s (TJB) Labor of Love 3.1 Gala Fundraising Luncheon on Sunday, April 13, 2025. Stokes, a key figure in Jamaica’s historic bobsled debut at the 1988 Winter Olympics, will receive the TJB Pioneer in Athletics & Exemplary Leader in Sport Award in recognition of his contributions to sports and the development of Caribbean athletes.
The prestigious event will be held at the Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury, New York, under the patronage of Jamaica’s Consul General to New York, the Hon. Alsion Wilson, O.D. It will be an afternoon of cocktails, networking, athlete tributes, prizes, and entertainment, all in support of TJB’s longstanding mission to assist young Caribbean athletes.
Irwin Clare
Since its founding in 1994, Team Jamaica Bickle, under the leadership of Founder and CEO Irwine Clare, Sr., O.D., has played a pivotal role in providing essential services for Jamaican and Caribbean athletes competing at the Penn Relays. Through its Hospitality Initiative Program, the organization ensures that athletes and coaches receive nutritious meals, physical therapy, chiropractic care, mentorship, medical services, and transportation, in addition to securing subsidized hotel accommodations.
Over the years, TJB’s commitment has expanded beyond hospitality to advocacy, ensuring the welfare and development of young athletes on and off the track. This work has been supported by major partnerships, including the enduring collaboration with Vincent HoSang’s Caribbean Food Delights and the Team Jamaica Bickle Philadelphia Chapter.
Sandra Brunson
The keynote speaker for the afternoon will be Sandra Brunson, Chairperson of the Second Round Foundation, an organization whose mission aligns closely with TJB’s efforts to support and uplift young athletes.
The event will also feature live entertainment, with a special guest artist set to perform, ensuring an engaging and unforgettable experience for attendees. To enhance the event’s experience, large screens will be installed throughout the venue, allowing guests to fully immerse themselves in the presentations and performances.
Doors will open at 11:30 AM, with the Cocktail Hour commencing at 12:00 PM sharp, followed by a carefully curated program featuring lunch, entertainment, and dancing. Tickets are priced at $200.00, with proceeds going toward supporting TJB’s mission of maintaining the winning tradition of Caribbean athletes.
