The picture-perfect west coast of Barbados will form the idyllic backdrop when one of the most exciting events on the European Seniors Golf Tour takes place on the island this weekend.
Several high-profile players, including PGA title winners, will tee off on Friday (today) as part of the second edition of the Barbados Legends tournament.
Golf legend Ian Woosnam, a Ryder Cup winner, is the host of the prestigious event which will be played at the picturesque Apes Hill Golf Course over three days.
Jody Addison, Director of Golf at Apes Hill, said they are ready to stage the event and welcomed the golfing world to the island. He hailed it as among the best golfing tournaments to be staged in the region.
“Ian Woosnam is the host, and he is the ambassador for Apes Hill. We have Peter Baker. Stephen Gallagher and Phillip Price are other big names we have attracted … they are well established, household names … who we have here are some of the best players – Ryder Cup stars, Major winners. This is great that Barbados can host such a prestigious event and attract these fantastic players,” Addison said on Thursday afternoon.
“It gives the rest of the world a chance to see what Apes Hill has and also showcases more eyes on Barbados and Apes Hill as well. It suits the brand of Barbados and Apes Hill. This weekend is as prestigious as any event ever held on the island.”
Baker is the defending champion. Last year’s event was staged in the first week of May and it saw an epic battle, with Baker taking the title in a play-off against Scott Hend. Having both carded final round 69s, Baker birdied the first extra hole to take the title.
