The netball world has been left in shock and sorrow following the devastating news that Jamaican Sunshine Girls captain and West Coast Fever star, Jhaniele Fowler-Nembhard, has suffered a miscarriage.
Her club, West Coast Fever, confirmed the heartbreaking development, expressing their deep sadness and support for Fowler-Nembhard and her family.
“It is with sadness and heartbreak that we inform the netball community that Jhaniele Fowler-Nembhard and her family have suffered the loss of their ‘Baby Fowler-Nembhard,’” the club stated. “Everyone at West Coast Fever is devastated for Jhaniele, Ashani, and Drehannah. We are wrapping our arms around them during this incredibly difficult time. Our club will continue to support Jhaniele and her family through the days, weeks, and months ahead as they navigate this heartbreaking situation,” said Sue Gaudion, Fever’s General Manager.
Just two months ago, in December 2024, Fowler-Nembhard and her family shared their joy as they prepared to welcome their second child. The pregnancy had already impacted her netball commitments, as she stepped away from the sport to focus on her health and well-being. Her absence was particularly felt during the Jamaica-England Horizon Series in November 2024, where she was expected to lead the Sunshine Girls in their highly anticipated matchups. Netball Jamaica President Tricia Robinson emphasized that her well-being was the priority, ensuring that she received all the necessary support.
Fowler-Nembhard’s husband, Ashani Nembhard, and her daughter, Drehannah, now face this devastating loss together as they grieve as a family. Fans, teammates, and members of the global netball community have already begun expressing their condolences and support, recognizing the emotional toll this tragedy has taken.

Regarded as one of the greatest goal shooters in the history of netball, Fowler-Nembhard has built a legacy both on and off the court. She has been the leading goal scorer in Australia’s Suncorp Super Netball League for five seasons, earning a reputation as an unstoppable force in the goal circle.
But now, as she faces one of the toughest challenges of her life, she is being surrounded by love and support from the people who admire her most. Her resilience as an athlete has never been in question, and while this loss is immeasurable, Fowler-Nembhard’s strength of character will undoubtedly help her and her family find a way forward.
As West Coast Fever, Netball Jamaica, and the global netball community continue to rally around her, Fowler-Nembhard’s next steps will be taken on her own terms. While she has been an inspiration on the court, now, more than ever, her courage off the court is what will define her journey. The entire netball family mourns alongside her, offering love, prayers, and unwavering support in this time of unimaginable grief.
