Trinidad and Tobago’s Benjamin Martin cemented his place in the history books after clinching a record seventh title in the professional category at the just-concluded Trinidad and Tobago Golf Open.

Martin, who entered Sunday’s final round with a slim lead, carded a solid 71 at the St Andrews Course to finish on 284—six strokes clear of his nearest rival, Chris Richards Sr. The defining moment came on the penultimate day when Martin surged ahead with an impressive 68 (four under par), overtaking Richards Sr. and never looking back.

Jamaica’s Wesley Brown rounded out the top three with a score of 302.

While Martin dominated the professional field, Chris Richards Jr ensured the Richards family still had cause to celebrate, comfortably winning the Championship division with a total score of 289. He finished well ahead of American Nikita Gubenko (300) and Puerto Rico’s Amalio Vega (305).

The tournament also witnessed a glimpse of the future as 14-year-old Ethan Collier upstaged his older rivals to claim victory in the First Flight category. Collier pulled away from early leader Dinesh Jackree to post a total score of 321, while Jackree settled for second with 326.

Another promising youngster, Ben Laughlin, also 14, claimed third with 330. Notably, West Indies cricket captain Darren Sammy had a strong showing, finishing fourth with 344 after an impressive final round.

In the Second Flight, Nandlal Ramlakhan asserted his dominance, finishing with a total of 353—four strokes ahead of Jamaican Owen McPherson (359), with Kisson Gannes close behind on 360.

The Seniors division saw a late surge from Clint Alfred, whose total score of 307 was enough to edge out Neil Lutchmansingh (311) and Zeke Percival of St Kitts and Nevis (323).
